Latest News from the One-Call/One-Click Team

February 7, 2023

Major updates from the Hopelink and King County Mobility Coalition (KCMC) project that aims to simplify and streamline the way community connects to specialized transportation options.

It’s a new year and the One-Call/One-Click system Find a Ride is really coming together. With this multi-modal trip planner and referral platform service, you will be able to avail yourself of many transportation options through a centralized trip planning and ride requesting service that is, literally, one call or one click away.

In early 2021 we were happy to announce that the Hopelink Mobility team had secured funding from WSDOT to build the first phase of a transformative transportation tool. This article aims to update you on what we have achieved so far.

First – we have a brand name! The Central Puget Sound one-call/one-click system will be known as Find a Ride. We aim to do just that, help all community members of all abilities find a ride that will get them to where they need to go. Easy.

Second – we have a software team to help us build Find a Ride. We have contracted with two well-known vendors in the transportation field; Cambridge Systematics and Arcadis IBI. Cambridge Systematics has been working on transportation issues for over 50 years, and Arcadis was originally founded in 1888! Together, Cambridge and Arcadis IBI have put their expertise to work on building the foundations of Find a Ride.

And what are those foundations? The first piece of Find a Ride is a robust multi-modal trip planner. This trip planner aims to include all transportation options in Snohomish, King, and Pierce counties – including specialized services like neighborhood shuttles and rural programs. These types of services have historically been difficult to include in a trip planner because of the difficulty of creating the proper data structures and formats. Thanks to meaningful technological advancements, the expertise of our two vendors, and the support of the Washington State Department of Transportation, we are tackling this technical difficulty! Once launched, our vendors will continue to shape, streamline, and simplify the software tool to help fit the needs of the community.

In addition to this complete trip planner, Find a Ride will be a streamlined, accessible, and user-friendly tool. Users will be able to filter their results, receive detailed itineraries, and learn about new programs.

Which brings us to our next step. The all-important stage of user testing. This is where the rubber meets the road (if you’ll excuse the transportation pun). We need your help. We need you to help us build this system. The feedback we gather from user testing will affect and influence the look, feel, and functionality of the Find a Ride site and software. We expect to begin this testing in the coming weeks and months. If you are interested in being part of this project, we’d love to hear from you.
