Research Project Updates: Cross-County Transportation

April 21, 2023

Consultants from the University of Washington will present recommendations to reduce barriers for cross-country travel.

Coordinating transportation services to be more efficient, flexible, and borderless is a challenge that transit agencies, non-profits, and local/regional providers have grappled with for years. Trying to cross county lines with the current transit and paratransit system is overly burdensome, with long waiting periods, multiple transfers, and requires advanced notice and coordination with numerous providers.

Addressing the current challenges facing cross-county transportation services will help support an aging population and empower people with disabilities and seniors to have greater independence.

For several months, the North King County Mobility Coalition staff has worked with three Master of Public Administration students from the University of Washington Evans School of Public Policy and Governance consulting lab.

The North King County Mobility Coalition is excited to announce that the University of Washington consultants have finished interviewing transportation service providers and community members and the first draft of the final report. We will be sharing project updates at the bimonthly NKCMC meeting. See below for meeting details.

This project aims to allow people to move freely across county lines with ease by conducting an environmental scan identifying and advocating for improvements in travel between King and Snohomish Counties. This includes a SWOT analysis, a final report, and a presentation of our findings at the May 16 King County Mobility Coalition meeting via Zoom.
