Find Your Freedom Ridership Results!

January 21, 2020

King County Metro + Hopelink Mobility Management's Find Your Freedom Campaign shares impressive data!

From June 2018 to June 2019, King County Metro worked with Hopelink Mobility Management and the King County Mobility Coalition's Access to Work and School Committee to distribute 6,000 $10 pre-loaded ORCA Youth cards and transit education materials to high school students in King County. This project arose from a State of Washington ORCA Youth Transportation Demand Management grant that sought to improve teen ridership on ORCA participating transit agencies and to increase the number of teens using ORCA Youth cards. ORCA Youth cards provide teens with a near 50% subsidy to a traditional adult fare.

The project reached 11 school districts, 35 high schools, and 35 youth-serving organizations. Many valuable lessons were learned during outreach with youth, including recommendations to transit agencies on how to better serve and engage teens.

Now, new ridership data reports that of the 6,000 cards distributed, 54% were used on transit and 11% were reloaded. The total value reloaded is estimated at almost $37,000! Data trends show that ridership was peak in summer months and that most card holders used King County Metro buses. To view more data, see the ridership data summary.
